Based on the research from the perspective of history of Japanese historiography of how had the modern Japanese history been written in the four series of Iwanami Lectures on Japanese History published after 1960s,this paper examined that since the end of the Cold War,the story of the modern Japanese history was described from"the history of the Japanese imperialism"to"the history of Imperial Japan".This process corresponds to the development stages of postwar Japanese historiography, and reflects the changes of the problem consciousness, methodologies and even values in the study of modern Japanese history. How to understand the internal logic of the shift in research paradigms is a subject worthy of in-depth exploration.
