一·二八事变后东方图书馆的重建及其困境

The Revival of Dong Fang Library and Its Predicament After Incident of January 28

东方图书馆,发端于商务印书馆附设之涵芬楼,1932年一·二八事变中被日军焚毁。以张元济为代表的文化界人士为复兴东方图书馆,作了诸多努力,并取得了一定的进展。如成立东方图书馆复兴委员会,设立编审委员会图书室,募集图书,积极寻求社会各界的支持等。由于时局动荡、经济困难,东方图书馆复兴未果,成为近代中国图书馆事业的一大憾事。

Dong Fang Library originates from Hanfen Building,which is attached to the Commercial Press and destroyed by the Japanese army in Incident of January 28.In order to revitalize Dong Fang Library,the cultural figures represented by Zhang Yuanji made many efforts and made some progress.One of his efforts was to form the Dong Fang Library Revival Committee,founding the library of Editorial Review Board,collecting books,actively seeking the support of the community and so on.Because of turbulent times and economic difficulties,Dong Fang Library failed to revive and was disbanded after the founding of the People’s Republic of China.This is a great pity for modern Chinese librarianship.
