Further Study on the Eastern Han Mausoleums on the Mangshan Mountain

根据最新考古发现成果并结合文献记载,洛阳邙山五座东汉帝陵的地望已基本确定,陪葬墓的分布规律逐渐明晰,但仍有许多细节问题需要深入探讨。本文主旨在于考察邙山东汉帝陵的营建过程,重点分析明帝选址洛南和安帝复葬邙山的原因,强调成年皇帝的个人意志在陵墓选址过程中起了重要作用,其主要目的均是出于维护自身统治合法性的政治需要。而幼年皇帝的丧葬事宜,则大多是被安排的"权宜之计"。在上述两种情况共同作用下,邙山东汉帝陵的分布逐渐变得没有明显规律可循,并最终形成"祖陵"光武帝原陵居中偏西,其余陵墓在其南、东、北三面环绕祔葬的复杂局面。

Thanks to new archaeological discoveries, the locations of the five Eastern Han mausoleums on the Mangshan Mountain have been largely determined and the distribution of their attendant tombs has also become clearer. However, many details remain to be clarified. This paper examines the construction process of the Mangshan Eastern Han mausoleums, and explores the factors affecting site selection by analyzing the tomb of Emperor Mingdi to the south of the Luohe River and that of Emperor Andi on the Mangshan Mountain to conclude that a grown emperor himself could choose his tomb location, but the burial of immature emperor was mostly political compromise in many aspects. Thus the complexity of distribution of the Eastern Han mausoleums on the Mangshan Mountain can be explained.
