弗莱的现代设计情怀--以欧米伽工场的艺术实践为中心

Roger Fry’s Enthusiasm for Modern Design:Focusing on the Art Practice of Omega Workshop

20世纪最著名的艺术批评家之一,形式主义美学的代表人物罗杰·弗莱(Roger Fry),还是一位一生勤于绘画,并对装饰和实用艺术充满热情的艺术家。他一手创建和经营英国现代设计的先驱组织"欧米伽工场",从事现代装饰和实用艺术的设计和制作。弗莱的现代设计思想是和他的后印象主义艺术观联系在一起的--欧米伽工场的创立和发展,实际上是他在英国推动后印象主义艺术的"新运动"的续篇。本文基于"新运动"和英国手工艺传统的背景,解读弗莱的现代设计思想和他在欧米伽时期的设计实践,一方面彰显其设计的欧米伽风格,一方面也力图呈现其设计中重感受力和造型性的个性表达。

Roger Fry was not only one of the most famous art critics and the main figure of formalism aestheticians in 20th century,but also an artist who painted all his life and showed great interest in decorative and applied arts.He established and operated Omega Workshops,the pioneer organization in modern design in Britain to create decorative and applied arts.Fry’s idea of design was so deeply rooted in his art concept based on post-impressionism that we can say the creation and development of Omega Workshops was a continuation of the new movement he launched to promote post-impressionism art.This paper focuses on Fry’s thoughts and practices of design during Omega period in the background of the new movement and Art&Craft campaign in Britain,trying to show forth the Omega characteristics of his design works as well as the individual characteristics related to his coherent emphases on sensibility and plasticity.
