忧患意识与君子的责任

An awareness of potential risks and Junzi s sense of responsibility

自殷周变革以来,忧患意识就在西周的文化传统中得到了非常直接的表达并由此而成为中华民族的一种基本的人文精神。对天命的敬畏是忧患意识的价值根源,对未知的恐惧是忧患意识的心理基础,而对时变的重视则是忧患意识的现实导向,这三者构成了忧患意识产生的基本条件。作为中国传统中重要的人格形象,君子是忧患意识的承担者,对于君子忧患意识的强调实际上就是对君子的社会责任和道义担当的重视。因此,君子的这种忧患意识指向的不是个人的生存实际状况(富贵或者贫穷),而是对于理想价值的实现,对于社会责任的担当。正是在对家、国、天下的关注中,尤其是在天下的意义上,君子的忧患意识才得以超越自我的有限性而得到更高的升华。

It is not uncommon to find an awareness of potential risks in the culture of Xizhou Dynasty,which later developed into a spirit of the Chinese nation.The awareness originates from the awe at Heaven s mandate,the fear for unknown future and concern for changes.As the image of an ideal man,Junzi(a person with integrity)has an awareness of risks,which is in essence a sense of responsibility for the society and the nation but not for his life satisfaction.
