The gilded silver pot stored in the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa,Tibet,is important evidence for the cultural exchange between China and the outside world in ancient times.Based on the analysis of similar gold and silver objects, manufacturing techniques, and iconography, the author argues that the gilded silver pot should be locally made in the late Tubo Empire or its neighbor area under the influence of diverse cultural elements of different origins.Furthermore, this paper argues that it is necessary to take various contexts into consideration in the interpretation of iconographical patterns of the object, given the fact that diverse cultural elements were involved in the manufacturing process. This artifact also reflects upon the intertwining of various cultural elements alongside the collision and blending between different civilizations. The gilded silver pot actually reveals the complexity of cultural exchange between the East and West Asia.
