The Chinese shipbuilding sector has been impacted significantly by disruption from COVID-19,with deliveries in February reaching their lowest monthly level in 15 years.China’s shipyards have been scaling production back up as the Chinese economy has“re-started”,but other risks to the orderbook have developed;following China’s shipbuilding statistics remains an important part of COVID-19 impact tracking.So,shipbuilding in China has already been impacted significantly in 2020 by COVID-19.Although delivery volumes now appear to be recovering,the outlook for contracting is still weak,while risks to the orderbook have broadened as the outbreak’s impact has spread.Keeping watch on China’s shipyard statistics will clearly remain a key part of the COVID-19 impact assessment.
