The reception of Pearl S.Buck′s works in the Western world has been fluctuating.Along with the continuous exchange,collision and development of Chinese and Western thoughts in the new era,the reception study of Pearl S.Buck′s works among common readers in the contemporary English world will shed light on the value and status of Pearl S.Buck.The author analyzed readers′opinions of The Good Earth to explore the scope and scale of the reception of Pearl S.Buck′s works and it is found that despite the cold reception among American literary critics,The Good Earth is regarded as a“classic”in the heart of common English readers.The reception has formed a relatively stable recommendation and communication system.Although a small number of readers still question the characterization,description,and Buck′s literary attainments,a vast majority of readers are moved by the touching universality embodied in the story.
