《锄骨》(1998)是当代海地裔美国女作家艾薇菊·丹提卡获得美国国家图书奖的一部历史题材小说。该小说以二十世纪二三十年代海地文化日渐式微为背景,为了凸显本民族的优秀传统文化与历史记忆,建构民族自信,艾薇菊·丹提卡以文学为有力武器,在小说中赋予了主题双重性的表征,传统意象如河流、双胞胎一些特别的寓意,并用不同的叙事声音来为普通民众发声。在文化地理学的启示下,论文对小说中的主题、意象及叙事声音的双重性进行了分析,试图揭示艾薇菊·丹提卡对原始主义与传统文化的坚守与承续,以及对边界共同体的人文关怀。
The Farming of Bones(1998) is a historical novel by Edwidge Danticat who won the National Book Award in the United States. The novel is based on the declining of Haitian culture in the the twenties or thirties of the 20th century to highlight the excellent traditional culture of the nation and histrorical memory, constructing national self-confidence. By taking literature as a powerful weapon, Edwidge Danticat shows the themes duality, traditional images such as rivers, twins’ some special meaning in the work, and she uses different narrative voices to speak out for ordinary people. Under the inspiration of cultural geography, the paper aims to analyze the duality of themes, traditional images and narrative voices to reveal Edwidge Danticat’s adherence to primitivism and the inheritance of traditional culture, as well as her humanistic concern for border communities.
