摘要 贝克特(1906-1989)出生于都柏林,毕业于都柏林三一学院,并曾短暂留校从事教学,1938年定居法国,经常被看作是法国作家。长期以来,贝克特与爱尔兰戏剧和文化的关系并没有得到学术界的重视,这方面的研究资料比较匮乏。布赖恩·辛格尔顿(Brian Singleton)是来自三一学院的戏剧教授,利用他在南京大学讲学期间与他做一个访谈,从爱尔兰的流浪汉形象、民族主义运动、爱尔兰口音的英语等不同角度探讨贝克特戏剧中的爱尔兰性,同时也涉及贝克特在当代爱尔兰的一些戏剧演出情况,等等。 Born in Dublin,Samuel Beckett(1906-1989)graduated from Trinity College Dublin,and once taught there for a short while.Since he settled in France in 1938,Becket has often been regarded as a French writer.As a consequence,his indebtedness to the Irish theatre and culture has not been adequately studied.During his lecture visit at Nanjing University,Brian Singleton,the theatre professor in Trinity College,makes comments on the following issues in an interview:the Irishness in Beckett’s works,such as the image of Irish wanderers,the Irish nationalist movement and the Irish accent,the contemporary performances of Beckett in Ireland,etc.
