邓小平说:"四项基本原则并不是新的东西,是我们党长期以来所一贯坚持的。"党的一大所制定的党纲中就蕴含着四项基本原则,毛泽东倾其一生领导党和人民把它们逐项由理想变为现实。新民主主义革命的成功,确立了中国共产党的领导,确立了人民民主专政(无产阶级专政);社会主义革命建设的成功,建立和巩固了社会主义制度。改革开放新时期,邓小平概括出坚持四项基本原则,创立了"一个中心、两个基本点"的基本路线,反映了邓小平对毛泽东思想的坚持、捍卫和发展。党的基本路线最后一句作为目的句,实质是巩固和发展社会主义制度,又回到了坚持四项基本原则。"不忘初心,牢记使命",从哪里来往哪里去,是党的政治路线(基本路线)的总概括。

As Deng Xiaoping said,"the Four Cardinal Principles are not something new but what our Party has been adhered to for a long time",they were embodied in the Party Constitution formulated on the First CPC National Congress,and were actualized one by one under the leadership of Mao Zedong.The Party’s victory in the New Democratic Revolution established the Party’s leadership and the people’s democratic dictatorship(the dictatorship of the proletariat);the success of China’s socialist revolutionary construction established and consolidated the socialist system.In the new era of reform and opening up,Deng Xiaoping summarized the proposition of"adhering to the Four Cardinal Principles"and put forth the Party’s basic line of"One Center,Two Basic Points",which showed that Deng adhered to,upheld and advanced Mao Zedong Thought.In the statement of the Party’s basic line,the latter part expresses the purpose of the basic line,that is,in essence to consolidate and advance the socialist system,which comes down to the Four Cardinal Principles."Stay true to the original aspiration and founding mission."Never forget why we started,and where we are going.This is the concise summary of the Party’s political line(basic line).
