贫困问题是从古到今人类面临的一大难题。恩格斯从1842年11月到1844年8月,用了21个月,在亲身观察、亲身交往以及可靠材料的基础上研究了英国工人阶级的状况,撰写了《英国工人阶级状况》一书,把英国工人赤贫的现象描写得淋漓尽致,深刻地揭示了英国无产者所处的低贱的社会地位和产生贫困的原因,为指导英国工人运动提供了理论依据,揭示了只有通过无产阶级革命推翻资产阶级统治才能解决贫困问题。

The problem of poverty is a big problem faced by mankind from ancient times to the present day.Engels spent 21 months from November 1842 to August 1844,studying the situation of the British working class on the basis of personal observations and authentic sources,and writing The Condition of the Working Class in England,which describes the extreme poverty of British workers incisively and vividly,profoundly reveals the low social status of the British proletarians and the causes of poverty,and provides a theoretical basis for guiding the British working class movement,i.e.,the problem of poverty can be solved only through the overthrow of bourgeois ruling through the proletarian revolution.
