Influence of Regional Trade Agreement and the Term Depth on China’s Intra-industry Trade

区域贸易协定(RTA)及其条款深度对中国产业内贸易具有较大的影响。通过倾向得分估计(PSM)方法研究得出:相比对产业间贸易的推动,中国已实施的FTA对贸易结构的影响,主要表现在促进产业内贸易份额的增长。实证结果表明,FTA文本条款的深度对产业内贸易的影响更大,且对垂直型产业内贸易的影响大于对水平型产业内贸易的影响,而浅层FTA则对水平型产业内贸易的影响更大。对制成品分部门研究可知,深度FTA更能有效推动中高技术型制成品产业内贸易水平的提高,但是其作用还未能充分发挥。

Regional trade agreement(RTA) and its term depth have a greater impact on China’s intra-industry trade. Using the propensity score estimation(PSM) method, this paper concludes that the impact of the implemented FTA on China’s trade structure is more significant on promoting the growth of intra-industry trade share than on promoting intra-industry trade. The empirical results show that the depth of the FTA terms has a greater impact on intra-industry trade, and the impact on vertical intra-industry trade is greater than that on horizontal intra-industry trade, while shallow FTA has a bigger impact on horizontal intra-industry trade. The research on the sub-sectors of manufactured goods shows that deep FTA can effectively promote the improvement of the intra-industry trade level of medium and high-tech manufactured goods, but its role has not yet been fully exerted.
