英语通用语研究的范式衍变与流派关联——兼论中国英语教学的“本土化”取径

The Evolving Orientation of ELF Research and Its Theoretical Relevance across Scopes: Critiquing the Nativization Approach to ELT in China

摘要 英语通用语(ELF)在国际化英语研究的流派博弈中正经历范式的转变,同时也获得了国内语言教学研究者的空前关注。在ELF理论视角不断深入教学实践的进程中,由于其自身的争议及其同新旧相关途径的复杂关联,概念泛化和流派误读的现象时有出现。以此为契机,本文以国际化英语研究作为宏观切入,围绕英语通用语的范式衍变,对与其具有认识论关联的其他核心研究范式进行重点回溯。在承接ELF研究应用转向的同时,应首先明确国际化英语范畴下各类观点与特定范式的对接与共建,且应在包容与多元的"全球英语"(GE)意识导向下,灵活动态地构建适应我国自身语境的国际化英语教学范式。 Whilst research into English as a Lingua Franca(ELF) is undertaking paradigm shift in recent decade, it is also drawing wider attention amongst Chinese ELT researchers. However, owing to ELF’s conceptual controversy in its own right and the complex interconnection with its related approaches, notional overgeneralization and theoretical misinterpretation constantly arise as ELF perspective transforms itself into a pedagogical inquiry. Centered around the changing research orientation of ELF-based debates in the broader context of internationalized English studies, this paper thus intends to provide a keynote review regarding other theoretical constructs with high ELF etymological relevance. The researcher thereby contends that concerned Chinese researchers should first and foremost clarify the alignment and theoretical co-construction of various ELF-related constructs in localizing the practical ELF turn. Drawing on a Global Englishes(GE) approach, the author also argues for a dynamic examination into the contextual appropriateness of a China-specific internationalized ELT approach.
