Development of traditional brick wall and brick wall culture in Ming&Qing dynasties

砖建材起源于新石器时期,到汉代因砖室墓盛行才产生砖砌墙体。魏晋南北朝时期修建佛塔使砖建材从地下墓葬建筑走向地面,明清时期砖瓦建材大发展、糯米水拌灰胶泥黏合剂使用,使民居建筑开始广泛用砖来砌墙,砖墙与多样化的民间建筑风格结合是其发展达到鼎盛的主要原因,这也有力地推动了砖墙文化发展。

Brick building materials originated in the Neolithic period,until Han dynasty the brick wall tombs became prevalent.The construction of pagodas during the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern dynasties caused brick building materials to move from underground tomb buildings to the ground.During the Ming and Qing dynasties,the develop⁃ment of brick and tile building materials and the use of glutinous rice water and mortar adhesives led to the wide⁃spread use of bricks to build walls in residential buildings.The combination of diverse folk architectural styles is the main reason for its development to reach its peak,which also strongly promoted the development of brick wall culture.
