Thousand Pieces of Gold and Wooden Fish Songs, written by the Chinese American writer Ruthanne Lum McCunn, represent the lives of Polly and Lue Gim Gong, two 19 th century Chinese Americans. This paper explores these two biographical fictions from the perspective of double hybridity, suggesting that the hybrid form of biographical fiction, weaving together history and fiction, facts and fabrication, matches with the hybrid identity of the Chinese Americans as well as its material grounding.Polly and Lue Gim Gong were not passively influenced by the material, social, cultural environment of their living place.Instead, they formed hybrid identity in the changing of natural environment, building farms and gardens, and fighting against racial prejudice. They also made their homestead as the spacial form and social expression of such a hybrid identity.
