地图也可以很浪漫,他用城市脉络勾勒出一幅幅面孔

"我出生于英国南部的一个港口城市——南安普敦市,我的艺术创作可以理解为将制图学和肖像画有机结合——使用墨水、铅笔等传统绘画工具在一系列原始地图上进行涂画,让地图上原有的等高线、路线等发生小幅度的改变,从这些改变的线路中,我能够描画出人物的面部轮廓,达到人物和地形图的和谐统一。在展开创作之前,我通常会花费数个小时研究每一幅地图,这样合成的人物肖像图才能够仍然保持地图的工具性。人物的肖像轮廓与地图的线路微妙结合的过程和远远看起来酷似人物的地图成品非常吸引我,当然不可否认的是这与肖像画在近处观看应当失去细节是矛盾的。"

Q:Why do you have the inspiration that combine cartography and porturaiture?A:I began combining maps and portraiture in 2012,shortly after finishing my university degree(I studied illustration).I had always been interested in portraiture,but during my degree I also felt a growing interest in context,and the number of different ways a portrait could be shown,simply by changing the surface and media.I started working with highly patterned surfaces,and eventually I experimented with utilising and“hijacking”the patterns for my own use.I realised that by manipulating the preexisting patterns,I could make gradual changes and force a map to show my own information(portraiture).
