运动休闲小镇的核心是将一些运动项目引入到建设中,整个特色小镇与体育的产业相互融合在一起,打造在当地具有一定地域性特点的体育文化活动中心。一般运动休闲小镇建设的体育项目一般都是以户外的为主,群众能够集体参与的体育项目,以户外运动作为主要建设项目的原因主要是能满足大众较高的一个体验度,并且还具有可复制性以及能够循环消费。降低特色运动小镇建设的复制性,将传统的体育文化融入到运动休闲小镇建设中是很有必要的。
