Mr.Guo Xi-liang(郭锡良)is an outstanding representative of the older generation of linguists.He carried forward the tradition and the academic heritage,and made a series of innovative theoretical and practical achievements.Mr.Guo(郭)not only made great academic contributions to phonology,the history of grammar and exegetics,but also paid attention to transform the principles of philology into the research methods of Chinese phonology and semantics.He carried out a lot of demonstrative research practices in the mutual seeking of Chinese character,phonology and semantics,and played a banner role in promoting the contemporary development of traditional linguistics.
