Adenovirus-associated hemophagocytic syndrome in a young child

A 2-year-old boy was admitted to our hospital because of recurrent fever,cough and wheezing for half a month.Physical examination revealed obvious inspiratory three-concave sign,moist rales,wheezing,rash on the face and hepatosplenomegaly.A chest computer tomography revealed bilateral lung consolidation(Fig.1).Direct immunofluorescence of nasopharyngeal swab was positive for adenovirus.Laboratory data showed reduced white blood cell of 3.63×10^9 cells/L(ref:4-10×10^9),hemoglobin of 98 g/L(ref:110-155 g/L)and platelets of 64×10^9/L(ref:100-400×10^9).Serum ferritin continued to be above 1500μg/L.
