How Will They Learn?——An Analysis of MOOC Learners’ Characteristics and Behaviors

摘要 MOOC已成为在线教育的发展趋势。为了解MOOC学习者参与学习的过程,从其特征和行为视角切入,对开放数据进行分析和讨论。研究发现,大部分学习者被MOOC的内容吸引而注册学习,并且希望积极完成学习任务;但实际上学习者主要发生浏览课程的行为,较少发生论坛互动等行为;积极参与者的学习行为表现更好,显著优于其他学习者;此外,部分学习者虽然学习投入度较高,但最终成绩却不够理想。未来MOOC的设计和开发,需注重交互功能的实现,为学习者提供丰富的个性化学习支持服务。 MOOC has become a development trend of online education. In order to understand the learning process of MOOC learners’ participation in learning, the learners’ characteristics and behaviors are analyzed and discussed based on open data. The results show that most of the registered learners are attracted by MOOC’s topics, and they intend to complete the learning tasks actively. But in fact, learners mainly browse the courses, and there are less forum interaction and other behaviors. The active participants perform better in learning behaviors, and significantly higher than other learners. In addition, some engaged learners are difficult to achieve higher grades. Consequently, the design and development of MOOC should pay more attention to the function of interaction, and provide more personalized learning supportive services.
