晚明中西文化的别样碰撞——当李贽遇上利玛窦

The Different Type of Collision between Chinese and Western Civilizations in the Late Ming Dynasty——When Li Zhi Meeting Matteo Ricci

利玛窦,旅居中国的意大利耶稣会传教士,学者。李贽,中国明代著名思想家,反封建斗士。李贽与利玛窦有过两次交游,他们彼此欣赏,特别是在对宋明理学的批判上,两人的态度是一致的。但由于李贽的“异端邪说”与封建统治阶级水火不相容,利玛窦担心传教事业受到影响,没有与李贽深交。李贽也因政治志向、哲学观等因素的影响,对利玛窦东来传教提出了“不知何为”论,实际上是对西学的全盘否定。两位东西方文化巨人,他们交游过,惺惺相惜过,尽管道不同不相为谋,他们为各自的“幻梦”奋斗过,历史也因为他们的奋斗而留下了不可磨灭的痕迹。

Matteo Ricci was a famous Italian Jesuit missionary and scholar sojourning in China.Li Zhi was a famous Chinese thinker and a heroic fighter against the feudal system in the Ming Dynasty.Matteo Ricci and Li Zhi met twice and admired each other,especially when criticizing Song-Ming’s neo-Confucianism,their views and attitudes were consistent.However,because the feudal ruling class at that time did not accept Li Zhi’s claim,Matteo Ricci was concerned that too much interaction with Li Zhi would negatively affect his missionary career,so he didn’t choose to build up a close relationship with Li Zhi.On the other hand,Li Zhi completely denied Matteo Ricci’s goal of visiting to China because of his philosophical views and political ambitions,and believed what Ricci was doing was“meaningless”.Actually Li Zhi’s attitude towards Matteo Ricci’s missionary career also reflected Li Zhi’s total negative attitude towards Western Learning.Although these two cultural giants from the East and the West had completely different attitudes in many concepts,they were struggling for their ideals,as a result of their persistent struggling,they have left an indelible mark in history respectively.
