从“以意逆志”论中医英译

Discussion on TCM English Translation by Reading The Writer’S Real Meaning Into The Expressions

欲得精准中医英译必先知晓作者真正的表达意旨。本文追本溯源对《诗经·小雅·北山》全篇内容进行分析,以探究孟子所倡“以意逆志”,发现其真正内涵为“以古人之意求古人之志”,并指出语境在逆推“古人之意”(作者真实表达意图)上发挥着至关重要的作用。然后结合笔者中医翻译中的具体实例,从上文语境、下文语境、文间语境3个方面进行例示,“以意逆志”如何在中医英译中理清文句真意、锁定概念内涵、明确用词意旨,进而为准确的中医英译奠定坚实基础。

Knowing author’s intention acts as the prerequisite of a precise TCM English translation.This paper,through analyzing The Northern Hill under the rubric of Minor Odes in The Book of Poetry to explore the idea of“reading the writer’s real meaning into the expressions”advocated by Mencius,discovers that it means“to get the author’s true meaning through his intention”and points out the pivotal role of context in inferring the true intention of the author.Further,it,combining experiences of the author of this paper,from three aspects,respectively,contexts created by preceding and following words and context created between texts,offers specific examples of its application in TCM English translation to explain how it functions to help understand the real meaning of sentences,concepts and wording,thereby laying firm foundation for accurate translation.
