“左联”成立之前,现代杂文历经《新青年》“随感录”时期、《语丝》以文明批评和社会批评为旨归的杂感随笔时期,已经有了很大发展。然而,正是三十年代持续高涨的政治氛围与以集体面貌出现的“左联”,使得现代杂文这一文体从自发走向自觉,并迅速走向高潮。在这里,来自“左联”的被动反抗,“左联”主动的政治诉求以及“左联”内以鲁迅为代表的左翼文人的大力倡导,成为现代杂文发展的重要推动力。
