A Study of COVID-19’s Impact on Business Operations of Companies in China——Based on the Data from a Survey of 1,182 Company Executives in Early April

文章基于今年4月上旬对1,182位在华企业高管所做线上问卷调查获得的数据,对新冠肺炎疫情在行业和企业层面造成的影响进行了分析。从多元线性回归分析得到的估计结果表明,企业受疫情冲击的严重程度与企业规模、企业所属行业、企业业务类型以及线上模式对线下模式的替代性之间有显著相关性,而与企业的所有制类型无关。文章提出了加大对小微企业和低收入个人的救助力度,支持企业建立和发展线上业务模式,积极管理和提升企业对在华经营前景的预期等政策建议。

Based on data from a survey of 1,182 company executives in early April,we examine the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on business operations of companies in China.Using a multiple linear regression method,we find that the degree of negative impact caused by the pandemic on companies’ business operations is associated with company size,industry where companies operate,client type,and substitutability of offline business mode by online business mode.We do not find any association between the business impact of the pandemic and company ownership type.Based on the results,we suggest that the government increase financial aid to small and micro enterprises as well as low-income individuals,enhance support to the development of online business modes,and actively manage and raise companies’ positive expectation towards future business operations in China.
