The uprising of urban big data and visualization has not only empowered urban practitioners to better understand cities, but also provided general public with unique lens for a glimpse of urban complexity. The article consists of three parts: Explore-how urban data came into play and its background;Deconstruct how urban data could facilitate a bottom-up, crowdsourcing approach for urban research;Represent-how data visualization conveyed the complicated urban information to the public so as to initiate a dialogue in civic innovation.
