The study investigated the effect of dietary fiber(DF)supplementation during late gestation on reproductive performance in primiparous sows.At 80 d of gestation,a total of 46 primiparous sows(France Large White)with similar body condition was selected and randomly allotted into two groups(Con or DF group),with 23 sows per groups, and sows were housed in individual crates. The experiment basal diet was a corn-soybean meal diet for gestation sows, while the dietary fiber supplemented diets were formulated by adding 2.5%of dietary fiber instead of wheat bran in the basal diet. The results are as follows:Dietary DF supplementation during late gestation did not affect the backfat thickness at 110 d of gestation, backfat thickness change and average daily feed intake during late gestation, duration of farrowing and farrowing interval(P>0.05).Dietary DF supplementation during late gestation did not affect the total born piglets, stillborn piglets, abnormalities piglets, mummy piglets, litter weight at birth and the average birth weight of piglets, standard deviation and coefficient of variation of birth weight(P>0.05),but significantly improved litter healthy piglets(P<0.05)and significantly reduced litter weak piglets(P<0.05).Dietary DF supplementation during late gestation did not affect the proportion of piglets birth weighing BW<0.8 kg、0.8 kg≤BW<1.3 kg、BW≥1.8 kg(P>0.05),significantly increased the proportion of piglets birth weighing 1.3 kg≤BW<1.8 kg(P<0.01).
