A Study on the Responsibilities of the Five Classics Doctor in the Imperial Academy of Confucius in Qing Dynasty

清代孔氏翰林院五经博士分为南北两宗,北宗五经博士主要由衍圣公次子承袭,主述圣子思祀事,南宗五经博士主要由嫡长子承袭,主衢州庙祀。南北宗五经博士专主祀事,同时还有稽查祭田、监(编)修族谱、管理林庙以及更换族长等职责。以孔子为代表的儒家学说是中国的底蕴和国魂之所在,崇礼圣哲、优礼圣裔正是彰显了对文明的皈依和道统的继承。

In the Qing Dynasty,the five classics doctor of the descendants of Confucius family were divided into two groups:the north and the south.The five classics doctor of the north were mainly inherited by the second son of the Yan Shenggong,who mainly responsible for the sacrifice of Zisi Temple.The five classics doctor of the South were mainly inherited by the first son of his own,who mainly worshipped Quzhou temple.The five classics doctor of the northern and southern sects were dedicated to the ceremony.At the same time,they also had the responsibility of inspecting the sacrificial fields,supervising(compiling)the genealogy,managing the forest temples and changing the clan leaders.Confucianism,represented by Confucius,is the essence of China and the soul of the country.The worship of sages and descendants of eurites show the conversion of civilization and the inheritance of Taoism.
