先秦是华夏族民族主体形成的重要阶段,直接表现是其与周边少数民族的大规模融合。在中国北方,这一过程更具体地表现为以晋国为代表的华夏文明与以狄族为代表的游牧文明的融合。文章讨论的艾国、晋国、赤狄与白狄在太行山西麓晋东地区的融合恰是这一宏大历史进程的具体缩影。
