The rise and fall of the New York Intellectuals can be regarded as an epitome of American leftist cultural movement in the 20th century.By tracing the development of this group,the paper tries to explore the intrinsic reasons of the evolution of its thoughts,with an emphasis on its unique contribution to American culture.Meanwhile,the paper analyzes the close connections of the new generation,and Sontag in particular,with that group and then articulates the interactions and relations between the New Left and Old Left,and thus reveals the significance of their critical writings in present financial crisis.
