In this article,multimodal English teaching is set in the background of new media age.By reviewing the literature on multimodal teaching,this article discusses the theoretical concepts supporting the multimodal approach.It scrutinizes what is entailed by the concept of multimodality and explores the theoretical foundation for teachers adopting multimodal teaching in order to engage their students to activate language learning.The necessity of adopting multimodal teaching approach is approved.And also,the benefits of employing a multimodal approach in English teaching are discussed.
