Publishing strategies and practices of special issues in English scientific journals:Taking Journal of Earth Science as an example

【目的】探讨英文科技期刊高水平专辑出版策略,摸索迈向国际一流期刊的特色发展道路。【方法】以Journal of Earth Science(JES)为例,利用Web of Science核心合集数据库,分析2015—2019年JES专辑刊文被引情况以及组稿特色,从依托主办单位,培养优质作者;发挥编委职能,编辑通力合作;实现媒体融合,提升传播效果;设计新颖封面,树立品牌形象等方面总结办刊经验。【结果】JES自2015年以来积极采取切实可行的措施来开展专辑组稿工作,期刊影响因子持续提升,并取得良好的成效,期刊的品牌知名度和国际影响力稳步提升。【结论】JES以专辑出版为突破口,立足自身优势和特色,争取优质稿源,通过提供优先出版、开放获取、多平台展示等服务,拓展专辑内容的信息延伸,利用新颖的专辑封面吸引读者眼球,为英文科技期刊实现国际化、开放化、精品化、特色化、数字化、多元化发展提供参考和借鉴。

[Purposes]This study aims to discuss the publishing strategies of high-level special issues in domestic English journals,and explore the characteristic development path towards world-class journals.[Methods]Taking Journal of Earth Science(JES)as an example,the citations and features of solicitations in the special issues published from 2015 to 2019 were analyzed through the core collection database of Web of Science.The practical experiences were summarized from the aspects of relying on the organizer and cultivating the high-quality authors,exercising the editorial board functions and cooperating with the editors,achieving the media convergence and improving the communication effects,and designing the novel covers and establishing the brand image.[Findings]Since 2015,JES has actively taken practical measures to publish the special issues,improving the impact factor,the brand awareness,and the international influence.[Conclusions]JES has taken high-level special issues as the breakthrough point,strived for the high-quality articles based on its own advantages and characteristics,expanded the content of special issues by providing services such as priority publication,open access,and multi-platform display,and attracted the readers by novel covers.It provides references for international,open,exquisite,characteristic,digital,diversified development of English scientific journals.
