The fireplace has been in use all over the world for over one million years.People mainly use it for cooking and getting warmth.However,in the western history,the fireplace undertakesdeep and profound cultural connotations,and has some special identities and symbolic meanings and implications.This paper is trying to explore the identity of the hearth in the novel of“Jane Eyre”in order to help readers to have a better understanding of the implied meanings of the novel and its cultures.
