Yue’s Agricultural Development of the Shankuai Plain in the Period of Wu-Yue Competing for Hegemony

吴越"夫椒之战后",越国面临亡国困厄,在范蠡等贤臣谋划下,越国确立了"兴越灭吴"国家策略,以耕战图霸业,在山会平原修筑新都城,越国农业由山区农耕走向平原农业。这一时期,越国对山会平原农业进行了有组织、有规划和高效率的开发,包括修筑农田水利工程御咸蓄淡、繁衍聚集人口拓边垦荒、因地制宜提高土地利用率等,并通过拓展水陆交通、学习外国先进农业技术、妥善处置农工商关系和农渔牧多种生活方式相结合等措施来发展农业经济,山会平原农业开发进入第一个历史高峰期。

After the"Fujiao War"between the Wu and Yue states,the Yue State faced the plight of national subjugation.Under the planning of Fan Li and other sages,it established the national strategy of"prospering Yue and destroying Wu",so as to cultivate and fight for hegemony and build a new capital city in the mountain plain.As such,the agriculture of Yue changed from mountain farming to plain agriculture.During this period,Yue developed agriculture in the Shankuai Plain in an organized,planned and efficient way by building irrigation and water conservancy projects,multiplying and gathering people to expand border reclamation,improving land utilization rate according to local conditions,developing agricultural economy by expanding land and water transportation,learning foreign advanced agricultural technology,properly handling the relationship between agriculture and industry and combining various lifestyles of agriculture,fishery and animal husbandry.Agricultural development in the Shankuai Plain entered its first peak in history.
