On August 28,2019,the recent National Institute for Health and Care Excellence(NICE)guideline represents a major advance for the diagnosis and management of hypertension in adults.Continuing the NICE's style,the guideline has a concise format,clear entries and attention to details.The guideline makes recommendations for blood pressure measurement,diagnosis of hypertension,assessment of cardiovascular risk and target organ damage,antihypertensive therapy,blood pressure monitoring,and future research.In terms of the diagnosis of hypertension,the guideline emphasizes the importance of blood pressure measurement methods for diagnosis and regards ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and home blood pressure measurements as necessary conditions for the diagnosis of hypertension.The guideline focuses on guiding patients to self-manage their blood pressure,which has reference for clinical practice in China.
