《蝇王》中儿童共同体的演化过程与其说再现了人类文明毁灭的后果,不如说揭示出文明毁灭后共同体的重建困境。一方面,拉尔夫的民主政体是对成人世界的单纯模仿,受制于其内在的"自体免疫"机制而无法阻止杰克合法地攫取领导权并导致民主的终结;另一方面,杰克的猎猪部落虽然依靠神秘共契实现对外部威胁的想象性控制,却为了确保其"同一性"需求而陷入"自杀逻辑"。两者之间的致命冲突看似文明和野蛮的对决,实则是现代性的两幅面孔。通过呈现它们不可避免地走向崩塌的绝境时刻,戈尔丁表达了对战后欧洲在尚未深刻反思现代性之前便掀起重建共同体热潮的审慎姿态。
The evolution of the children community in William Golding’s Lord of the Flies,rather than rehearses the catastrophes emerging after its destruction,reveals the dilemma of reconstructing a community after the destruction of human civilization.The conflict between two modes of community reconstruction,though seemingly a deadly confrontation between civilization and barbarism,represents two faces of modernity.By presenting the aporetic moments of the two communities,Golding expresses his reserved attitude towards the post-war fever of community reconstruction in Europe before the consequences of modernity have been properly reevaluated.
