On the Study of Wang Zhonghan’s Frontier History and Geography and Its Time Value

王锺翰边疆史地研究是其学术研究的重要组成部分。王锺翰涉足边疆史地研究,既有其早年受多位史学大师教诲和启发的外在原因,也有其自身学术路径演变和一直关注中华民族前途命运的内在原因。王锺翰边疆史地研究的内涵十分丰富,他特别注重从我国统一多民族国家的发展历程和中华民族多元一体的发展规律来考察边疆史地问题,并将实事求是和民族平等原则融入边疆史地研究中,较好地处理了"边缘与中心""民族与国家"之间的关系。在此基础上,王锺翰初步回答了"谁代表中国"这一重大理论问题。因此,对当前的民族与边疆研究来讲,进一步系统梳理和凝练我国老一辈马克思主义民族史家的边疆史地研究的成果和治学经验,对丰富和充实"中国边疆学"无疑具有重要的学术价值。

Wang Zhonghan’ s research on the history and geography of the frontier area is an important part of his academic research.Wang ’ s involvement in the study of frontier history and geography is result of both external reasons of his early influence and inspiration from his teachers in history,as well as internal reasons of his personal interests and constant concern for the future and destiny of the Chinese nation.Wang ’ s research on frontier history is rich in connotation.He paid special attention to examining the historical and local problems of frontier areas from the development course of China ’ s unified multi-ethnic country and the law of the development of the pluralistic integration of the Chinese nation.He did also integrate the principles of seeking truth from facts and national equality into the study of frontier history and geography which better handled the relationship between " periphery and center" and " ethnicity and nation".Furthermore,Wang made preliminary answers to the important theoretical question of " who represents China ".Therefore,it is of great academic value to enrich the present " China Frontier Studies" by further systematically reviewing and condensing the achievements and experience of the frontier historical studies of the elder generation of Marxist ethnic historians in China.
