《水浒传》英译本的语篇风格再现——以赛珍珠、沙博理两译本为例

Analyses of Textual Style in the Translation of Shui Hu Zhuan——Taking the Two English Versions of Pearl S.Buck and Sydney Shapiro as Examples

《水浒传》是中国四大名著之一。该书安排了许多生动、曲折情节。其结构基本完整,同时又富有变化,于无形中折射出深厚的文化背景。本文就赛珍珠和沙博理在小说语篇风格翻译上进行比读,从古文文风、章回小说特色,以及文化传真三方面评论赛译和沙译的两个英文译本,以期找出两位译者翻译《水浒传》的得与失,并探讨其内在原因。从两译本语篇风格来看,赛珍珠在翻译当中遵循异化的策略,而沙博理更多采取了归化的翻译,在归化的过程中又适时地照顾原文。

Shui Hu Zhuan is one of the four famous works in China.The book has many vivid and tortuous plots.Its structure is basically complete,and at the same time it is full of changes,which reflects a profound cultural background invisibly.This paper makes a comparative study of the two versions of Pearl S.Buck and Sydney Shapiro from three aspects:the style of ancient Chinese prose,the characteristics of chapter fiction and cultural facsimile to find out the gains and losses of the two translators in translating Shui Hu Zhuan and to explore their internal reasons.According to the style of the two versions,Pearl Buck follows the strategy of foreignization in the process of translation,while Shapiro adopts the strategy of domestication more and takes good care of the original text in the process of domestication.
