Impact of Mergers and Acquisitions on Military Technological Innovation

近年来,美国与军用技术生产研发有关的企业并购越来越频繁,那么企业并购对其军用技术创新的影响到底如何?将知识基础观与国防工业的特点相结合,提出了国防企业的并购活动对其军用技术创新的可能影响机制。通过对美国11家大型国防企业的实证研究发现,技术并购活动对国防企业军用技术创新绩效会产生正向作用,但随着时间推移影响程度逐渐变小;非技术并购活动在短期内对其军用技术创新绩效没有显著影响,长期内具有负向影响;目标方的绝对知识规模和相对知识规模对其军用技术创新绩效分别具有非线性和负向影响。

In recent years,mergers and acquisitions related to military technology production and R&D in the United States have become more and more frequent. What is the impact of mergers and acquisitions on military technology innovation? Combining the knowledge-based view with the characteristics of national defense industry,this paper proposes the possible influence mechanism of mergers and acquisitions activities of national defense enterprises on their military technological innovation. Through the empirical study of eleven large defense enterprises in the United States,it is found that technology mergers and acquisitions have a positive effect on the performance of military technological innovation of defense enterprises,but the degree of influence decreases gradually;non-technology mergers and acquisitions have no significant impact on the performance of military technological innovation in the short term,but have a negative impact in the long term;the absolute knowledge scale and relative knowledge scale of the target party has non-linear and negative impact on the performance of military technological innovation,respectively.
