Objective To investigate the effect of abdominal massage combined with Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)acupoint application in the treatment of constipation in patients with acute myocardial infarction. Methods Totally 60 patients with constipation followed by acute myocardial infarction were randomly divided into the observation group and the control group, with 30 cases in each group. All patients received comprehensive treatment and nursing care, and those in the observation group were given abdominal massage and acupoint application with self-made TCM purgative cream. The curative effect, the time to first defecation, rate of poor defecation status were observed and compared between two groups. Results The total effective rate in the observation group was 93.33%(28/30),which was significant higher than 70.00%(21/30)in the control group(P<0.05).A shorter time to first defecation was found in the observation group than that in the control group(0.92±0.28 days vs.1.53±0.78 days,P<0.05).The rate of poor defecation status in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group(10.00%vs.46.67%,P<0.05).Conclusion The abdominal massage combined with Traditional Chinese Medicine acupoint application is potentially effective to relieve constipation and improve constipation status in patients with acute myocardial infarction.
