The General and Particular Meanings of Yingzao:Thoughts on the Naming of the Society for the Research in Chinese Architecture

首先回顾了刊载于《中国营造学社汇刊》的两篇论著中对于学社命名的两种诠释;其后,分析了这两种诠释对于学社研究所产生的影响;最后则着眼于泛指之"营造",讨论了一种可为学社当年所用的由戈特弗里德·森佩尔的理论所带来的契机。

T his pap er e xamines the meanings of yingz ao as expounded in two articles published in Bulletin of the Society for Research in Chinese Architecture,and analyzes their different influences on the research within the Society.In the end,it discusses the opportunity that Gottfiried Semper’s theory could be adopted for the research in Chinese architecture when yingzao broadly refers to technical arts.
