摘要
以英国作家威廉·萨默赛特·毛姆的中篇小说《面纱》及其同名电影改编(2006版)为研究文本,结合热拉尔·热奈特和西摩·查特曼的叙事学理论,从故事和话语两个层面对比两个文本中时空的呈现。通过研究发现,小说叙事和电影叙事都呈现出了时间和空间的二元性:两个文本都采用了异于原始故事时间的叙事时间系统,而由于叙事手段和媒介的差异,二者呈现出不同的故事空间和话语空间。经过这样的差异分析,深入探讨叙事学在两种符号系统之中展开言说的意义,认真审视两种相异的媒介对叙事时空的影响,以及媒介变化与时空二元转换之间的关系。
With William Somerset Maugham′s novel,The Painted Veil,and its film adaptation(2006)as the research texts,and Gerard Genette′s as well as Seymour Chatman′s theories of narratology as theoretical support,this article compares the presentation of time and space in the above two texts from the perspective of story and discourse,and draws the conclusion that both the novel and the film show the duality of time and space:they both have adopted narrative time systems different from the original story time system,and present different story space and discourse space because of the differences in narrative means.Through the analysis,the significance of studying narratology in the above two different symbolic systems is explored in depth,and the impact of two different media on narrative time and space as well as the relationship between the change of media and the switch between story and discourse are carefully examined.
