基于语料库的情态动词汉译量值偏移研究——以Lady Windermere's Fan的8个译本为例

A Corpus-based Study of Modality Shift:Taking Eight Versions of Lady Windermere’s Fan for Example

本文基于Lady Windermere's Fan 8个译本的英汉平行语料库,系统考察了不同译本中情态动词的量值偏移特征。研究发现:1)8个译本均以情态量值对等翻译为主,钱之德译本最突出,情态对等达72.4%;其次是沈性仁、荣如德和潘家洵译本。2)情态量值非对等翻译中,余光中和孙予译本偏好强化偏移;张南峰和张由纪译本省译现象更频繁。受出版年代、译者职业背景、性别因素等影响,各译本情态动词量值有一定偏移,也反映出不同的译者风格。

This paper investigates the modality shifts in eight Chinese versions of Lady Windermere’s Fan based on selfestablished parallel corpora.The analysis of the translations suggests the following findings:(i)Corresponding translation of modality shift accounts for the largest proportion in all versions,especially in Qian Zhide’s version(accounts for 72.4%,followed by those of Shen Xingren,Rong Rude and Pan Jiaxun.(ii)In terms of noncorresponding translations,"strengthening"shift is more frequent in both Yu Kuangchung’s and Sun Yu’s versions.Zhang Nanfeng’s and Zhang Youji’s versions see a larger frequency of"omission".Differences in modality shifts among versions may be attributed to such factors as publishing years,professions and genders,which also reflects the translators’styles to some extent.
