文体差异、语言特征与学习者汉英翻译质量的关系研究

Relationships Among Genre Difference, Language Features and EFL Learners’ Chinese-English Translation Quality

本研究基于叙事文和议论文汉译英语料,借助自然语言处理工具提取了词汇、句法和衔接三个维度的47个语言特征,考察了这些语言特征在两种文体学习者译文中的差异及其预测译文分数的能力,以期为翻译质量评估与教学实践提供借鉴。结果表明,第一,两种文体的学习者译文在44个语言特征上存在显著差异。第二,两种文体译文分数的预测因子并不完全相同,其中11个语言特征能够解释55.08%的叙事文译文分数,5个语言特征能够解释36.92%的议论文译文分数。

This study examined Chinese EFL learners’ translation performance in two genres,narrative and argumentative,and explored the significant predictors of translation quality.Learners’ Chinese-English translations of a narrative and an argumentation were collected respectively,and natural language processing tools were used to extract 47 lexical,syntactic and cohesive features.Results indicated that significant differences in 44 language features were found across the two genres.In addition,distinct sets of predictors of translation quality were identified for each genre.Eleven variables explained 55.08% of the variance in holistic translation scores of narrative while five variables explained 36.92% of the variance in holistic translation scores of argumentation.These results can shed light on translation quality assessment and pedagogical practice.
