"To cure some times,to relieve often,to comfort always",the phrase is believed to be an epitaph of the American physician Trudeau, but in recent years scholars have questioned its exact provenance.Today,in the world of welcome the return of medical humanities, this statement is constantly referred and quoted, and it is necessary to research on its origin.First, the quote by its nature is not an epitaph, but an aphorism.Second, this aphorism originated in France in the mid-15th century, and is the crystallization of collective wisdom. It is hoped that through this study, this aphorism will be quoted with perfect accuracy, and medical students will gradually develop their critical thinking in the process of autonomous learning.
