Objective To explore the clinical value of procalcitonin(PCT)detection in infants and young children with hemorrhagic diarrhea. Methods 76 children with hemorrhagic diarrhea detected in our hospital from November 2017 to November 2018 were selected and grouped according to different pathogens. They were divided into bacterial diarrhea group(n=24),viral diarrhea group(n=25)and non-infectious diarrhea group(n=27).The PCT and C-reactive protein(CRP)levels of the three groups were detected, and the laboratory positive rate was compared. Results PCT and CRP levels detection of the three groups showed that the PCT and CRP levels of the bacterial diarrhea group were significantly higher than those of the viral diarrhea group and the non-infectious diarrhea group, with significant differences between the groups(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in PCT and CRP levels between viral diarrhea group and non-infectious diarrhea group(P>0.05).The positive rate of PCT and CRP level detection in bacterial diarrhea group was 83.33%and 79.17%respectively.The positive rate in bacterial diarrhea group was significantly higher than that in the viral diarrhea group and non-infectious diarrhea group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the positive detection rate of PCT and CRP in the viral diarrhea group and non-infectious diarrhea group(P>0.05).Conclusion The detection of PCT and CRP levels in hemorrhagic diarrhea in infants and young children can significantly increase the positive detection rate of bacterial infection diarrhea. Both PCT and CRP levels can be used as important indicators in the diagnosis of diarrhea in young children.
