"Morning dew"and"play"are two favorite metaphors of human life in Chinese and English poetry.They respectively embody some basic features of these two poetic traditions,such as the affective-expressive,lyric qualities of poetic expression of the former,and the reliance on artistic making and dramatic construction of the latter.As cultural phenomena,these two metaphors also reveal two distinctive outlooks on human life:while the former yearns for a life in harmony with nature,the latter encourages the pursuit of a life in imitation of an abstract idea or heaven.
