元代是地震多发期,其中发生于至元二十七年(1290)的大宁路地震是一次破坏性极大的地震。元代的大宁路为辽代的中京、金代的北京,是元代东北地区的重要路级建制,在沟通东北与中原方面具有重要的战略地位。大宁路地震造成了极大的破坏,影响到了元代政治走向和灾异观,同时地震发生时正值东道诸王乃颜叛乱,这给东北地区造成了较大的饥荒等灾害影响,元朝政府通过赈灾、平叛等多措并举,最终成功稳定了局势,加强了对东北地区的社会治理和军政管控,从而维护了大一统的局面。
