费理雅及其对中国文学的译介

Lydia Mary Fay and Her Translations and Research on Chinese Literature

本文以美国圣公会来华传教士费理雅为研究对象,探究费理雅在19世纪中西文学文化交流中的主要成就。首先,费理雅负责上海男子寄宿学校的教育和管理工作,为其正常运行和持续发展起到了至关重要的作用。其次,费理雅从事中国文学的翻译和研究,涉足汉语教材、人物传记、中国文学作品译介等诸多领域,在一定程度上推进了中国文学的西译进程。

This paper investigates Lydia Mary Fay,a missionary of the Episcopal Church Mission who worked in China from 1851 to 1878 and worked much on the translation and research of Chinese literature.It also explores her main achievements in the cultural and literary exchanges between China and the West in the 19th century.On one hand,she was responsible for the education and management of the Episcopal Boy's Boarding School in Shanghai and played an important role for the normal operation and sustainable development of the school.On the other hand,she was engaged in the translation and research of Chinese literature,and her works covered the compilation of Chinese textbooks,writing the biographies of historical Chinese personages and literati,the translation and introduction of Chinese literary works,etc.To a certain extent,her works promoted the translation of Chinese literature in the West.
