New Understanding of Tombs in Ancient China:A Case Study of Han Period Tombs

墓葬是安置死者遗体的特殊建筑,是我们了解古代丧葬思想的重要媒介。汉代是中国古代墓葬制度形成的重要阶段,本文主要以汉代墓葬为例,就如何真实客观地释读墓葬信息进行探讨,论证了古代墓葬的诸多性质,如神圣性、象征性、礼仪性、等级性、安全性、时代性,并希望通过以上论证,解析中国古代墓葬制度演变的根源。

Tombs are special facilities for placing the corpses.In addition,tombs can be conceived as an important media through which we can understand mortuary belief in ancient time.The Han period is a critical moment in the formation of the ancient mortuary system.Based on case studies of Han tombs,this paper discusses methodological issues of interpreting the mortuary information in an objective manner.In addition,this paper touches upon related issues such as the sanctity,symbolic meaning,ritual meaning,hierarchy,security,and chronological characteristics of ancient tombs.Through a synthetic discussion of all these aspects,this paper attempts to investigate the origins of the transformation of mortuary system in China.
